1929 Po-Boy Kitchen Reviews
I went to 1929 restaurant on May 6, 2025, specifically to pick up Yakamein as a surprise lunch for my sissy. She's from New Orleans, where this is a special dish. Upon arrival, the gentleman who worked there told me they had sold out the Oxtail Yakamein, and the seafood Yakamein was not ready yet. I couldn't wait because I had an appt to get to. As I was about to leave, I met the owner/executive chef Monica Landry. She is the absolute best. I explained to her that I came there because purposely because I heard her restaurant made the best Yakamein. Also wanted to surprise my sis with her New Orleans hometown delicacy for lunch. After hearing what brought me in that day, Monica personally made the Yakamein for my sister and 1 for me as well. She personally blessed us on the house. It was the spirit The Holy Spirit that led her to do that. She and I were both crying and testifying about how good God is, on our purpose helping & blessing others. The food was SOOO OUTSTANDING!!! Monica Landry touched my heart in a special way because she made it so personal for me. Thank you, Monica! Sorry it took me so long to post my review.
Jun 03, 2025 · Anisa GreenThis was a great find. I knew about the Lyric Market Food Hall but had never been to eat. We opted for a Weekend Brunch at this Creole spot & it was wonderful. My Oxtail Omelet was seasoned perfectly and the potatoes too. It was huge & I actually got 2 meals out of it. My Husband enjoyed the Strawberry Pancakes & let me taste them...phenomenal. Really nice flavor with crispy edges just like I like them. Service was great. Very friendly. I also enjoyed the Food Hall itself. Lots of huge windows & natural light. We came early so the crowd was light but it was filling up as we were leaving. Will definitely be back to try an actual Po'Boy.
Jan 21, 2025 · Judith SmallsMannnnnn, I taken here by my gf to experience the fried green tomatoes “HER WAY” which is fgt w/sauteed shrimp, crab, and crawfish, drizzled with remoulade sauce and mixed cheese on top! When I tell you, IT WAS EVERYTHING!!! The fgt were cooked to PERFECTION!!! The Wonderful beignets were hot, fresh, with a crispy outside and a soft airy inside!!! And the Sweet Potato Bread Pudding is absolutely Delightful!! This place is a Hidden Gem in the Lyric Market Downtown but it’s a MUST TRY!!!!
Apr 12, 2025 · GoddessVetteDelicious, delicious, delicious. My husband and I are visiting Huston for new years and he came across this spot. Looking at the photos of the dishes we noticed a very interesting oxtail dish we had to try. The flavors are out of this world and the portion size is worth the money. To top off the dish, we got traditional beignets that melted in our mouths. Service was phenomenal! Ms Monica is so sweet. Such a delight to step out of traditional food. A Caribbean &Creole explosion. A must try.
Dec 30, 2024 · C WI went to the 1929 Po-boy Kitchen this week. This restaurant is hands down 10 out of 10. The Oxtails Yakamein was so flavorful with just the right amount of spice. The oxtails were falling off the bones and seasoned to perfection. Even the broth was super delicious. This food was so good, my friend and I had to return to try out the breakfast. Just like the lunch experience, the breakfast did not disappoint. The pancakes were delicious; they were fluffy with just the right amount of crisp. The eggs were scrambled and cooked all the way through, yet they somehow managed to be soft and fluffy. I’ve never experienced eggs that way. The flower created from a strawberry placed on top of the pancakes was the real showstopper. What I like the most was the service provided by the owner Ms. Monica. She was very hospitable. The service was top tier with an experience like going to eat at a down-home environment of a welcoming family or friend. All around great experience. Go eat at 1929 Po-boy Kitchen located in the Lyric Market; you won’t be disappointed.
