For us Texans, particularly here in Houston, a city renowned for its diverse and exceptional culinary scene, discovering a restaurant that truly leaves a lasting impression is always a celebrated event. It's a place that transcends the everyday, offering an experience that diners are still talking about long after their meal.
Late August embodies a refined yet welcoming approach to American cuisine, with clear influences that create unique and exciting flavor profiles. The atmosphere itself contributes significantly to the experience, with an aesthetic that exudes fine dining vibes – thoughtful interior design, comfortable seating, and an attention to detail that sets the stage for an elevated meal. But it's the food and service that truly steal the show. Patrons rave about the creativity and execution of the dishes, from inventive appetizers like dressed oysters and crispy octopus, to main courses that redefine comfort food, such as what has been called the "best fried chicken" ever. Coupled with original cocktails and attentive staff who anticipate your needs, Late August promises a dining experience that is not only delicious but genuinely memorable, making it a standout establishment in Houston’s competitive restaurant landscape.
Late August is strategically located at 4201 Main St Suite 120, Houston, TX 77002, USA. This address places it squarely within The Ion, a prominent innovation hub and mixed-use development in the heart of Houston's Midtown/Museum District area. The Ion building itself is a beautifully revived structure, once a Sears department store, now a modern center for technology, entrepreneurship, and community, which also houses various food and beverage establishments.
For Houston locals, the accessibility of Late August is a significant advantage. Main Street is a major artery in the city, providing excellent connectivity. The restaurant is easily reachable from major freeways such as I-45, US-59, and Highway 288, making it convenient for diners coming from downtown, the Galleria, the Texas Medical Center, or other surrounding neighborhoods. Late August Reviews
Let's break this down. I took my fiance to Late August on March 1st. Since this date we are still talking about the memorable meal and service. From the moment we walked in we were treated wonderful from the greeter and shown to our table, which happened to be a chef's table overlooking the kitchen where the food was prepped fresh. I cannot thank our waiter enough for his recommendations. The cocktail drinks do not disappoint with some original flavorings exclusive to Late August. Moving on to the food you had delicious appetizers such as octopus and oysters. Main courses include the best fried chicken that I've ever had, which is marinated before deep frying deliciousness. I've been to Paula Deen's Sons restaurant in Savannah and this hands down slaps it. We can't wait to go back and try more. It will for sure be soon!
Mar 13, 2025 · Matthew WeathersWe went to Late August when they had their valentines 3 course dinner. We had a reservation, so we did not have to wait for a table. The atmosphere and aesthetic of the interior were thoughtful and were giving fine dining vibes.Service was quick and friendly. Never did I have to wait for my drink to be refilled or have to track down a server. The chef really outdid themselves with the food. I'd highly recommend the dressed oysters and basted strip loin. But the best thing, IMO, was the dessert, chocolate 4 ways. My brain sent me back to my mom making abuelita's coco on the stove.High praise to the chefs, and I'll be coming back for brunch and dinner!
Feb 16, 2025 · JAMFrom the moment I walked up to the door, to the moment I walked out was hands down one of my favorite dining experiences. The hostess was so sweet and immediately recognized my reservation and wished me the most genuine happy birthday. It was a solo dinner for me, but I was never left to feel alone. Danny and Tariq were incredibly attentive and very entertaining. You can tell they genuinely care about their guests and the restaurant. They knew most of the guests by name, made sure to greet and say bye to everyone. They know the menu like the back of their hand and make the best recommendations. I will absolutely be back, every chance I get.
Feb 18, 2025 · Vanessa IreneEnjoyed a wonderful dinner downtown in a beautifully reimagined space. The owner Chris made some wonderful recommendations from the Menu & we enjoyed everything! The freshness and care in the preparation was evident. Also great crafted cocktails and mocktails. Nice ambiance & very friendly service. Such a lovely place that we all agreed we will definitely return to.
Apr 06, 2025 · Judith SmallsPopped in midweek for a nice dinner with my mom and I’m so glad we braved the weather (it thunder stormed that day)! What initially drew me to Late August was seeing fry bread, and refried black eyed peas on the menu, but we thoroughly enjoyed our whole meal.Standouts include the mustard green aioli that’s with the charred brussels, the memelitas (though, I’d have liked a more generous spreading of the refried black eyed peas), the A1 strip loin, and the cornbread crumble (I’m excited to try my own hand at this!).The space is beautifully designed with deep teal, and gold accents, and art that speaks to the Afro-Latin fusion. 10/10 recommend and will be back the next time I’m in Houston.
